5 Tips for Your First Tandem Paragliding Flight
Nervous about your first flight? Here is everything you need to know, from what to wear to how to handle the takeoff.
Paragliding is an exhilarating experience, but it's natural to feel a mix of excitement and nervousness before your first flight. The good news is that tandem paragliding requires no prior experience; your pilot handles all the technical aspects.
First, let's talk about clothing. Even if it's warm on the beach in Costa Adeje, it can get chilly at 1000 meters altitude. We recommend wearing comfortable trousers, a light jacket or windbreaker, and most importantly, sturdy closed-toe shoes like sneakers. Sandals or flip-flops are not suitable for takeoff and landing.
The takeoff is often the part people worry about most, but it's surprisingly gentle. You don't 'jump' off a cliff. Instead, we run a few steps down a gentle slope until the glider catches the air and lifts us off our feet. Trust your pilot's instructions—when they say run, keep moving until you're in the air!
Finally, don't forget to breathe and look around. The views of Tenerife, from the volcanic landscapes of Teide to the sparkling Atlantic Ocean, are unlike anything else. Relax into the harness, which is as comfortable as an armchair, and enjoy the ride.
